Habitude Guitars was started in 2018 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, by PJ Wright. PJ is a 22 year Veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from the USAF, in 2007. The last 10 years of his service he performed his duties as an MH-53 PAVELOW Helicopter Aerial Gunner Instructor. He flew countless combat missions in the Middle East, infiltrating, re-supplying, and exfiltrating Special Operations forces throughout that theatre. Among his many accomplishments, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor for an exfiltration mission in Afghanistan in 2002.
After retiring from active duty he took on his next role as a defense contractor in the United States, Iraq, and Afghanistan. In 2007, he was diagnosed with PTSD but managed to keep it at bay enough to continue to work. In 2015 the bottom dropped out for him and life became unmanageable. Through grace of God, he was able to attend a 6 week in residence at the Meadows, a highly rated rehab in Wickenberg, Arizona.
Through this rehab he was able to get a handle on his mental health and began to cope. Being a guitar player since the age of 14, he went all in with his playing and found it was a significant coping mechanism. He then took it a step further and began building solid body electric guitars and found it’s therapy to be immeasurable. He formed Habitude Guitars, which means, “the essence of ones soul”, in order to keep his healthy therapy vibrant and also a way to give back to the disabled Veteran community by donating the guitars he builds to Veterans and Veteran organizations.
